Setup order

Two cameras, one on the visitor and one on the porch floor for packages, with local storage and on-device AI that sorts people, packages, and vehicles. It works on battery or your existing doorbell wires, and it shows live video on the Echo Dot's big siblings if you add a Show later. This is the doorbell on my own house.

Because a Ring at the same price would cost another $250 in subscriptions over five years, and the E340 does the same job with two cameras and local storage. WHY IT IS IN THE PACKAGE
Because it's the glue. The Dot ties the other three together with voice control and routines, and Alexa+ made it a much better assistant this year. It's deliberately the basic Dot rather than the Dot Max or a Show; you can add those in the $1,000 package once you know which room you'd actually use a display in. Frequently asked questions
Do I need a hub?
No. The Echo Dot is the voice hub, and the thermostat, lock, and doorbell each connect to Wi-Fi on their own. If you later add Zigbee or Thread devices, an Echo Dot Max or Echo Show includes those radios.
Can I do this with Google or Apple instead of Alexa?
Yes. Swap the Echo Dot for a Google Home Speaker ($100) or a HomePod mini ($99); the ecobee and the E340 work with both, and for Apple Home choose the UltraLoq Bolt Home Key or a Schlage Encode Plus instead of the U-Bolt Pro. The total lands within $50 of this package.
What should I add next?
A Lutron Caseta starter kit for the main living room lights, and a second ecobee room sensor for the bedroom. Those are the first two additions in the $1,000 package.
Do these stay with the house when I sell?
The thermostat, lock, and doorbell are fixtures and usually convey; the Echo Dot goes with you. Reset everything and remove it from your accounts before closing so the buyer can set it up fresh.
Is any of this hard to install?
